Going to school in a Mercedes-Benz bus: Mercedes-Benz do Brasil has received an order from the Brazilian Ministry of Education for 1600 school buses for its "Caminho da Escola" ("school route") program. The buses are due to be delivered by April 2019. The robust chassis of these buses are especially suited for use on the unsurfaced roads commonly found in the rural areas of Brazil. A further key factor in the placement of this major order with Mercedes-Benz do Brasil was the country-wide availability of technical customer support and spare parts.
The bus market in Brazil continued to recover during the first quarter of 2018, with sales some 33 percent above the previous year's level. Brazil was therefore a major contributor to the positive sales growth for Daimler Buses in Latin America during the first quarter. All in all, sales by Daimler Buses in Latin America (excluding Mexico) increased by 30 percent to 3100 Chassis.
