New fully-electric Citaro urban bus, another world premiere as well as numerous renewed and enhanced products and services at the Daimler Buses IAA preview in Mainz.

World premiere of eCitaro

That we at Daimler Buses are electrified in the truest sense of the word is made clear by a very special highlight: the world premiere of the fully-electric Mercedes-Benz Citaro. The prototype of our electric bus was already unveiled to media representatives at the beginning of March. Now this new child of ours not only has a face, but also a name, "eCitaro".

Our message is clear: the new eCitaro is the start of a strategic innovation initiative aimed at the electrification of local public transportation. However, we are not just offering our customers a battery concept, but also a complete e-mobility system. Our eMobility Consulting advises our customers on the road toward electric mobility.

To provide our customers, the municipalities, with planning security, we have for the first time given a preview of the powertrain and charging concepts that we have planned for our electric buses in the next few years. Our goal is to gradually improve the range of our eCitaro – and to offer more than simply a battery concept.

The new generation of Mercedes-Benz minibuses

We are able to celebrate another world premiere with our minibuses. The new Sprinter City 75 ushers in a model change for our minibuses. Our regular-service flagship has been totally renewed. Thanks to a longer wheelbase, the compact city bus with an independent frame body offers a large low-floor platform; an exclusive high-load rear axle makes for a high passenger capacity.

By the end of 2019, we will have revised all our model series: the touring coaches and the shuttle buses, the minibuses for regular-service use and for the mobility segment. As before, they will continue in future to be divided into the model series Sprinter City, Sprinter Transfer, Sprinter Mobility and Sprinter Travel, and will be launched one after the other in a gradual process. We will then be able to offer a total of more than 20 left- and right-hand-drive variants. We will therefore also be represented in the highly attractive midibus segment under 10 meters.

New assistance systems

For us, safety has the highest priority. The assistance system like Active Brake Assist 4 or Sideguard Assist already unveiled with the totally renewed Setra S 531 DT double-decker will now be introduced in more buses. Moreover, from February 2019, the Citaro will be the first bus to feature Preventive Brake Assist and Sideguard Assist.

New digital services

We are also making systematic further developments in the area of connectivity. With OMNIplus Uptime, we will, starting in the fourth quarter, provide our customers a further useful digital service.
